Packaging Design at VUCX

A package is the last touchpoint before the purchase decision. As a packaging design agency, VUCX translates brand strategy, product benefits, and material requirements into design that works on the shelf, in the online store, and at the point of sale. Our multidisciplinary creative team brings experience from complex packaging projects across cosmetics, automotive, furniture, and electronics, as well as fashion.

Our Design Process

Every project starts with a briefing on positioning, target audience, and production requirements. The concept phase follows, where VUCX develops several design directions and brings them to life through 3D visualization. Once a direction is approved, the team handles final artwork, print coordination, and preparation for series production. This keeps the process transparent for everyone involved, even with multiple language or market variants.

Industreis and Use Cases

VUCX VUCX creates packaging designs for cosmetics and fragrance brands, automotive suppliers, furniture manufacturers, and the electrical engineering industry, as well as for fashion labels. The requirements vary greatly: A glass perfume bottle requires different design and material choices than packaging for a line of switches intended for specialty retailers. VUCX’s in-house graphic design team handles the brand translation on the packaging; for larger brand systems, the Corporate Identity department also provides support.

Photorealistic 3D Packaging Design for E-Commerce

Packaging design is hard to judge on screen alone, which is why VUCX relies on photorealistic 3D visualization. The result looks like a photograph but is built entirely digitally: as a rendering for internal reviews, as a packshot for the online store, or as a rotatable 3D model for print approval. Glass is especially demanding to render convincingly, particularly with fragrance bottles: transparency, refraction, and reflections all have to be right, or the rendering reads as artificial. VUCX has built this expertise on projects for brands including Bruno Banani, LeGer by Lena Gercke, adidas, David Beckham, and MEXX. For e-commerce, that means production-ready imagery, with no photo studio required, even before the first physical sample exists.

Beyond functional packshots, VUCX also creates creative packshots: packaging staged with light, composition, and environment for campaigns and social media. The work with Escada shows this approach in practice: Escada Sorbetto Rosso: Animated Product Video & Creative Packshots.

This speeds up decisions during the design process and reduces costly corrections later in printing. For campaigns that go beyond single packshots, such as animated sequences or elaborate CGI productions, VUCX's own VFX/CGI/3D Animation team takes over. The COTY campaign, built around multiple CGI packshots, shows this collaboration in action: COTY Inc. CGI Packshots.

The Max Factor campaign also combined packaging design with POS and digital execution across multiple channels: Max Factor 123 More Me Campaign.

FAQs about Packaging Design

How much does professional packaging design cost?

Cost depends on complexity, material choice, and the number of variants involved. A single packaging concept differs significantly in price from a system built for multiple product lines. VUCX provides an individual quote after a short briefing.

How long does it take to develop product packaging?

A straightforward packaging design can be completed within a few weeks, while complex systems with multiple variants require more time for review and print approval. VUCX clarifies exact timelines during the initial consultation. Production lead times are planned separately.

Which industries does VUCX design packaging for?

VUCX designs packaging for cosmetics, fashion, automotive, furniture, and electronics. Experience ranges from fragrance bottles to technical switch programs. Each industry brings its own material requirements, which factor into the design from the start.

Does VUCX also design fragrance bottles and glass packaging?

Yes, beyond standard packaging, VUCX designs and visualizes fragrance bottles and other glass containers. Glass is one of the most technically demanding materials in 3D visualization, since transparency, refraction, and reflections all need to be calculated realistically. VUCX has built this experience through fragrance projects for brands such as Bruno Banani, adidas, and MEXX.

What sets VUCX apart from other packaging design agencies?

VUCX combines packaging design with related disciplines like graphic design, CGI production, and POS design under one roof. This results in packaging that isn't designed in isolation but embedded in the full brand communication. Fewer interfaces mean faster approval cycles.

Does VUCX also handle print coordination?

Yes, VUCX manages the process from final artwork through print approval. This includes coordinating with production and print partners to keep colors, materials, and variant logic consistent. Quality stays intact from the first draft to the finished product.

Does VUCX offer sustainable packaging design?

Yes, material choice and sustainability requirements are a core part of the consulting process. VUCX factors in recyclability and material reduction as early as the concept phase. Specific options are discussed individually based on product and industry.

Can VUCX create photorealistic packaging visuals for online stores?

Yes, VUCX produces photorealistic 3D packshots that are ready to use without a physical photo shoot. This works especially well for e-commerce, catalogs, and product pages that need to show multiple variants or color options. Visuals are generated directly during the design process and can be reused across channels.

What's the difference between a product packshot and a creative packshot?

A standard packshot shows the product in a neutral, functional way, typically for catalogs or online stores. A creative packshot stages the same packaging with light, environment, and composition for campaigns and social media. VUCX offers both and adapts the visual style to the intended use case.
